About Water Hammer Phenomenon
As a consumable product used by a wide variety of industries, mechanical seals are one of the most highly demanded products in Korea, which boasts highly developed heavy chemical industries. The strongly developed chemical factories in Korea require mixing in sealed condition, usually in agitators, to produce chemical-related products. Mixing within a sealed space would not be possible without mechanical seals.
Designs must be varied in accordance with physical properties, and various production conditions must be accommodated to account for corroded articles, volatile materials, high- or low-temperature conditions, or high-pressure conditions. For each of such conditions, optimal mechanical seal faces need to be processed and installed by use of special materials. To maintain constant face pressure to meet the required material, size and design conditions, spring force need to be controlled to achieve consistency in attaching rotors to stators.
Before the development of metal welded bellows, mechanical seals that used multi-springs were in general use. Welded bellows are advanced versions with spring force consistently conveying power to critical and dangerous parts.
With the technology developed by use of metal bellows for such purposes, Korea Seal Technology has been able to adopt higher technology for more bellows, and therefore achieve welded bellows applicable for water hammer functions.
